About this place
Being able to chat across the counter about your mood and taste before ordering is part of the appeal at Bar Chanti-Pop in Ueno 6-chome. In addition to a broad repertoire of classic cocktails such as gin and tonics, gimlets, and daiquiris, the bar accommodates bespoke requests, whether that means a riff on a Bee's Knees or Vesper Martini, or simply asking for a pour that pairs with chocolate. The back bar holds bottles from across the globe, spanning Japanese whiskies like Yamazaki 12-year, Hakushu 12-year, Hibiki, and Yoichi to American bourbons including Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, and Wild Turkey.
The thoughtful culinary offerings are just as notable as the drinks. An assortment of bites complements the alcohol, from a cheese plate featuring house-made and smoked cheeses to house-marinated oysters infused with garlic and oyster sauce, as well as oven-baked oil sardines. Guests can nibble lightly on avocado dip or raisin butter, or make a full meal with shrimp and mushroom ajillo served with baguette, an assortment of 3 oversized sausages, and thick-cut bacon steak.
Operating from 18:00 to 4:00 the following morning every day except Tuesday, the space offers both counter and table seating, comfortably welcoming solo drinkers and groups of friends alike. Finishing the night with Yamagata gelato makes for a refreshing, signature conclusion to an evening here.
